Professor Dr Dr Kai Zacharowski received two awards for his commitment to implementing Patient Blood Management at this year’s Central East European SRATI Congress in Romania

From the 15th to the 19th of May 2024, the 50th Central European Congress for Patient Blood Management of the Romanian Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care (SRATI) took place in Sinaia, Romania. At this year’s meeting, Professor Dr Dr Kai Zacharowski (Director of the Department of Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care, and Pain Therapy at the University Hospital Frankfurt) emphasised the importance of swiftly translating new scientific findings into clinical practice to ensure patient safety. He also highlighted the significance of Patient Blood Management (PBM) and urged the recognition of its importance.

In his presentation, he reported on the success of the German PBM-Network, the collaboration between clinics and hospitals (Meybohm, BJA, 2023), as well as the support from the University Hospital Frankfurt in the (inter)national implementation of PBM.

On the occasion of SRATI’s 50th-anniversary congress, Professor Dr Dr Zacharowski was honoured with the “VITAE CUSTODES” medal for his significant contributions and exceptional dedication to patient care and the preservation of life.

Furthermore, Professor Dr Dr Kai Zacharowski was honoured with the title of “Visiting Professor” for his outstanding academic performance, his tireless efforts in advancing the fields of anaesthesia and intensive care in Romania, and his significant contributions to the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” in Bucharest.
